The Town Clerk is responsible for many duties as prescribed by New York State Law such as Dog Licensing, DEC Conservation Licenses, Registrar of Marriage Licenses, Records Management Officer of Town Records and Handicapped Permits. The Town Clerk is also the Receiver of Taxes and is responsible for the collection of taxes. We are here to assist you and to help you with these and any other services that you require. Laws mandate many additional duties, but many clerks go well beyond those mandates as they serve as a major source of information to all.
Licenses & Fees
Dog Licenses
All dogs must be licensed by 4 months of age. To obtain a license the owner must have proof that the dog has been vaccinated for rabies. For more information please contact the Town Clerk's Office at 607-739-1476.
Dog Fees
- $10.00 if spayed/neutered (proof must be shown at time of obtaining license)
- $20.00 if not spayed/neutered
- $3.00 extra will be added for ever if renewal of the license is 30 days late
Hunting Licenses
To obtain a hunting license in New York State, a driver's license or photo ID is necessary. First time licensees must show their Hunter Safety Certification.

Marriage Licenses
Both people must be present to obtain the marriage license, with birth certificates and proper photo identification. If either person was previously married, they must submit divorce paperwork. The divorce decree must show the filing date and time stamp of the county in which the divorce was filed. The marriage ceremony may not take place within 24 hours from the time that the license is issued. The marriage license is only valid for 60 days, beginning the day after it is issued. If both applicants are 18 years of age or older, no consents are required. The certificate is only valid within New York State excluding New York City.

Photo Identification and Application are needed to apply.
Tax Collection
Tax bills will be sent out the last day of December. If you do not receive your tax bill by mid-January, please call our office. If any information has changed, please contact us as soon as possible.
Make checks payable to: Town of Veteran
You can mail the check to the Town of Veteran at 4049 Watkins Road Millport, NY 14864 or as it's indicated on the bill.
If you would like a receipt, please send in your WHOLE bill.
Penalties:
- paid before January 31st - no penalty
- paid between February 1st - February 28th - 1% interest charge
- paid between March 1st - March 31st - 2% interest charge (plus $2.00 notice fee)
NOTICE: as of April 1st - all taxes have to be sent to the Chemung County Treasurer's Office.
